Case from practice

What a restaurant website needs: the Zlato Sidro example

For the Zlato Sidro restaurant in Portorož I built both the front end and the server side by hand. This article describes what the site has today and why this set of features works for a restaurant.

1. Menu and daily offer

Guests first look for what they can eat. That is why the site has a separate menu page with a daily offer that can be updated quickly. A guest opening the site on a phone should not wait for a large file.

2. Online booking

A guest can book a table through a form up to a certain number of people. For larger groups the site points to a phone call. That way ordinary bookings do not need a call, and personal contact stays for larger groups.

3. Events and gift vouchers

Christenings, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and business events each have an enquiry form, and so do gift vouchers. Enquiries do not land at a general address and arrive sorted by topic.

4. Several languages

The restaurant is in a tourist area, so the site is in Slovenian, English, Italian and German. A foreign guest finds their way around without a translator.

5. Guest reviews and trust

The site shows guest reviews with Google and TripAdvisor ratings and links to both. A new guest likes to decide by what others have written.

6. The owner manages the content

The site has its own admin panel written in PHP, private and accessible only to the owner. This lets them change content without a developer.

If you run a venue and are thinking about a similar site, I am happy to tell you what would make sense for yours and what would not.
